The best $17 CAD I've Spent

We actually had 2 days off in a row! The morning started off quite pretty...if you ignore the exhaust from all the big rigs that run 24/7 and the ugly trailers/dumpsters, etc...

Then off to Fort McMurry for tube sledding!!

Here is Jenny getting her tubing on:

And to end our day we walked to the ski lift and got a free ride up to the "chalet"

Cold Days in the Great White Nord

Another deadie. Half eaten squirrel:

Tucker with his ball, and booties:

Shrek - hmmm does he look happy to you?

Tucker got really, really cold on one of our helicopter days so I put him in a down coat, and Conan made a fire:

Jenny and I took a trip to Lac La Biche (Lake of the Deer) and found his little piece of history - something about the first European that came to Lac La Biche:

Tuk Tuk!

Me chasing Tucker, after he crossed the river...bad dog!

Chewing on his ball after finding lots of caribou scat:

Conan likes to set trees on fire:

Wanted: Deadies and Alive

I went scouting on the snowmobile for 2 days. This is what I found:

Beaver Skull:

Marten?

Lynx? Fisher? Coyote?

And some live ones from driving in the field:

Oh yea, and a caribou taken down by wolves. We found this wolf kill in one of our grids! And, Tucker started eating the meat...dum dum.

Heli Day!

We had our first Helicopter Drop off days 2 weeks ago. Exciting! Two helis picked up teams to take them about 60km up north to control grids, where we were expecting to find lots of caribou scat. The first day, we landed in great caribou habitat, in fact we didn't get much farther than 300 m from our drop off point because we found caribou tracks and beds everywhere! The second day was not so good because we found deer (what we are not looking for). Deer tracks everywhere, and the few places we found either caribou or moose tracks, the deer poops right at the crossroads where the tracks intersected. Not so successful. We are going to do our next set of heli days later this week...time to take more dramamine!
