Honolulu

I'm back in Honolulu, getting ready for field camp! I head back out to the NW Hawaiian Islands next week...first flying to Midway and staying for a little bit to do some seal surveys, and then back to my home island, Laysan, until the end of August! Yes - 5 months on the islands...without fresh food or water! Insane...yes. I am excited about seeing the pups, and being able to know who belongs to who, and to finish up deworming!!

My favorite memory of Tunisia

Sahara Safari

I was very lucky and got to go on a 3 day trek around most of Tunisia. We started in Hammemet, on the NE coast, and drove along the coast, then into the central part of the country, into the northern part of the Saharan Desert, then back through the Atlas Mountain Range. It was awesome! I saw so much, and got to do some incredible things, namely ride a camel! Here are some pics of the journey.

Tunisia!

Here are my first images from my trip to Tunisia! I never thought I would go to Africa...and yet alone Tunisia! How many people even know where this country is? FYI: it is in northern Africa, in between Algeria and Libya; colonized by the French; and the majority are Muslim, however, they are very liberal people.

Me in Sidi Bou Said, notice how Tunisian flags are flying EVERYWHERE! Sidi Bou Said is a town that is considered to have very beautiful houses and views. The houses are all white and have blue doors and windows, and all with great vistas of the Mediterranean. Soooo, this means tourists! This town has become very touristy, even though it is basically just a neighborhood, so there are merchants selling junk all over the streets, and bus-loads of tourists.
